The Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer Charity Year In Review

This year has been full of so many great moments for the Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer charity and so we thought that moving into 2019 would be a great opportunity to reflect back on what we’ve achieved with a Year In Review!

Let’s start our Year In Review as we stepped from Winter into Spring

We started the year with lots of organising to do to get ready for the rest of a busy year. In February our fab new pink Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer charity collection boxes arrived ready to be released into the wild.

We were also busy preparing for our appearance at the Birmingham St. Patricks Day parade. We went all out with some huge tutus, frilly bras and of course some big St. Patricks Day hats which was all kindly sponsored by the Kiely Brothers. And it definitely paid off – we got 3rd place for Best Dressed Float!

We didn’t get much rest after that as we were then super busy organising one of our top moments of the year – the release of the music video for Surviving Voices and Friend’s cover of ‘Lean On Me’! We had a fabulous night with so many wonderful entertainers, including the hilarious Barbara Nice, the lovely Llewela Bailey, the incredibly talented Aston Performing Arts Academy, and the fab Sam Bishop. And it couldn’t have happened without all the staff at The Electric Cinema, Plan B Creative and Blue Monday.

We started Summer in style

To kick off the summer, we had our Laurent-Perrier Champagne Night at Henry Wong’s. It was a night filled with lots of delicious food, great company, a tipple or two and most importantly, lots of fundraising! In fact, we raised £3225!

Next in our Year In Review is a proud moment for us, when we were very pleased to find out that Veronica had been shortlisted for the English Women’s Award 2018! Veronica works incredibly hard for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer and we were incredibly proud of her achievement.

Autumn was busy busy busy with Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The autumn brought changes and even more fundraising as we moved into our new premises. From there we started to organise a whole host of events for the end of 2018 and beyond. First of all, we were preparing for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. As per usual, we raised awareness in fabulous style and roped in the Floozie in the Jacuzzi to help us out.

October was also the month we started our new drop-in sessions that are held at Fisher House on the QE grounds. Ellen and staff at Asda Cape Hill generously donated the food for our first session for which we’re very thankful! We’re hoping that these sessions will provide much needed support to those affected by breast cancer.

Other fabulous fundraisers gave us a heart-warming amount of support in October, including Reid & Co who hosted a great Speedquizzing night and Lisa Fitch who hosted a coffee morning. We then had one of our biggest events of the year, our fashion show at the Chateau Impney Hotel with 36 wonderful breast cancer models wearing evening wear from Continental Collection, 720 generous guests, entertainment from Got 2 Sing choir and DJ Dougie Fresh and all brilliantly compered by the lovely Satnam Rana. And to top it off, it was all beautifully filmed by Sue Jones at Redhead Productions!

The icing on our Breast Cancer Awareness Month cake came in the form of Veronica winning the Woman And Home 50 Over 50 Friendship Above And Beyond Award for her hard work creating this wonderful breast cancer charity of ours! It was an incredibly proud moment for us and all the more special as it was received during breast cancer awareness month.

Our Year In Review ends with some glitz and glamour

Our year was ended in our typical glitzy Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer style with our annual Bubbles & Lunch event which was bigger and better than ever. Reid & Co, as ever, were very kind contributors for the event, and along with lots of other generous people, helped to make sure a great time was had by all and that lots of money was raised for those strong women throughout the West Midlands who are fighting breast cancer.

And that was the Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer charity’s Year In Review! Thank you so much to everyone who has been a contributor, supporter or cheerleader – we couldn’t do it without you!
