Britain’s Got Talent Press Release on LFBC below:

Birmingham charity choir wow the Britain’s Got Talent judges and audience

May 30th, 2019

As the 2019 ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ show reaches its climax this weekend, Birmingham based charity is reflecting what might have been, after a choir it formed went to the ITV show’s auditions, earned a standing ovation, four ‘yes’s’ from the judges, but then missed out on featuring in this week’s live semi-finals.

The choir was formed by ‘Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer’, a charity based in St Paul’s Square, Birmingham, and the Britain’s Got Talent audition was the first time they had actually sung in public. It comprises of ladies who are currently fighting breast cancer and being supported by the charity, along with some of their friends and family members.

“We started doing it as a kind of therapy, a way of taking the patients’ minds off the horrible illness they are suffering from, and fighting to overcome,” said Veronica Kumeta, the founder and chief executive of ‘Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer’. “We meet up and have a good sing song, and it’s great fun.

“The Britain’s Got Talent experience was offered us after we recorded ourselves, and put it on YouTube – we had a call from a member of the production team who’d been suitably impressed and invited us to the auditions, which are recorded before a live theatre audience.

“We’d never sung to our friends or families, let alone a theatre audience, but we saw it as a great opportunity – we were the last act of the session, we absolutely rose to the occasion, and it was so thrilling to receive a standing ovation from everyone, including the four judges.

“Simon (Cowell), Alesha (Dixon), Amanda (Holden) and David (Walliams) were fulsome in their kind comments, and it was such an uplifting experience like none of us had ever enjoyed; we were thrilled.”

But the LFBC choir were up against fierce competition, and not just that, competing against plenty of other choirs from around the country, all as worthy of being selected for the final 40 to go through to this weeks’ live semi-finals.

“That we did as well as we did is good enough for us,” said Veronica. “The only disappointment is that we didn’t feature on the audition programmes, but a few months on from the audition the experience has given us a taste of what we could achieve; we still sing regularly, and with more experience we might even give it another go next year!”

If anyone wants to join the choir, they meet at The Midlands Art Centre, Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, every Thursday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. For more information telephone Yvonne on 0121 389 8926.
